Friday night lights, gas station gossip, or kids playing in sprinklers are just a few of the everyday happenings in the small town of Carbon Hill. While large cities have much to offer, living in a small town also has its advantages. Small town living offers things like shorter commutes and less time stuck in traffic, lower crime rates, lower cost of living, sense of community, and quirky traditions. Carbon Hill offers the small town lifestyle, but also provides easy access to the benefits of major metro areas of Alabama and Mississippi.

The city is nestled in the northwest corner of Walker County and is located just 45 minutes from Birmingham, 1 hour from Tupelo and Tuscaloosa, and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Memphis. Also, the city is just a little over 15 minutes away from the quickly growing community of Jasper. Interstate 22, that passes through the city, is one of the nation’s newest interstate corridors and provides quick and safe routes to these larger cities. In addition to the proximity to these cities, Carbon Hill is only about 25 minutes from Smith Lake. Natural Bridge and the William Bankhead National Forest are nearby as well.

Living in Carbon Hill offers many amenities specific to the town as well. One of the main attractions of the city is our community swimming pool that has been a place for families to congregate for decades. Other recreational attractions include walking trails, ball parks, opportunities for hunting, fishing, and outdoor activities, and more.

Dining in Carbon Hill is a feature as well. The city is home to the famous Pizza Bar that has been featured on shows such as Absolutely Alabama and more. Residents of Carbon Hill enjoy the benefits of a new elementary, Jr. high, and high school as well as new athletic facilities. The city is also just over 20 minutes away from a nearby community college.

At city hall, you will find the mayor’s office along with the city clerk, magistrate, police, and fire station. The city provides water, sewer, gas, and garbage pickup, while Alabama Power and Charter provide electricity and cable TV/Internet respectively.
